Venetian masks have existed for hundreds of years and today are immortalized in books, sold in costume shops, and hung in art galleries everywhere. They are associated with the celebration of Mardi Gras in the USA as well as the Carnivals of Brazil and, most famously, Venice.
Venetian masks are famous for their gorgeous design, bright colors and decorations in the Baroque style. There are many types of Venetian masks. The most popular are the “Bauta,” a full face mask, and the “Columbino,” a half mask which covers the eyes and is held up with a stick attached to the side of the mask.
Today’s collection is a photo gallery dedicated to these gorgeous disguises. If you ever travel to Venice, be sure to check them out for yourself and make your own contribution to our gallery by taking lots of photos and tagging them with #mask.
