Sometimes the world we live in surprises us. Something you’ve seen a million times before, all of a sudden, hits you like a lightning bolt and makes you forget whatever had seemed so important just moments before. Clouds are like this. They are constantly above us, changing, dissipating, and forming, yet we are accustomed to them. We carry on, indifferent to these mammoth sculptures of water vapor floating overhead.
Sometimes, however, you look up in the sky and think to yourself that what you’re seeing is nothing less than amazing. They seem so perfect, like great piles of white linen sheets stuffed with goose feathers; it’s a wonder they don’t fall down to the earth.
Photography more than any other medium is great for this type of things. Stopping to notice something we see every day, something ignored or forgotten altogether. Photography challenges our indifference by catching these moments right before they slip away and holds them up to our noses to remind us what a marvelous place the world is.
