It is hard to ask for a better subject for photography than a ballerina. Ballerina’s train their entire lives to turn their bodies into tools of visual expression. Every movement is a deliberate alignment towards grace, beauty, and emotional release. Considering that photographers spend most of their time seeking moments of beauty and deep feeling, photographing a ballerina is a privilege, as a ballerina’s performance is a continuous sequence of seamlessly expressed beauty and feeling.
On top of everything, ballet is a tremendous physical challenge, and so it is impossible to find the poses and positions achieved by ballet dancers outside of a professional company. The art of perfecting a leap or rising onto the edge of one’s toes is enough to reduce most us to agony, yet ballerina’s achieve these feats flawlessly and make them appear effortless, using their rare abilities to become the essence of beauty itself. If you happen to have a camera in your hands, shoot as many photos as possible, because you may never have a better model in front of your lens again.
