Macro photography is the practice of taking magnified photos with a special lens to get up close shots with amazing detail. This brings scenes too small for the eye to see up to scale, and allows us to appreciate them in detail. All of the fine textures normally unnoticeable from afar reveal themselves, like the translucence of a fly’s wing or the thread patterns in a cushion.
Macro photography is an addictive habit, because everything looks so different from up close. Shooting in macro is an entirely different way of experiencing our surroundings, foreign yet familiar at the same time. It’s like getting a backstage pass to take a look at a whole world that is going on in secret right below our noses.
