Every now and then, an artist chooses a name that pairs oddly with the art they create. This is the case with Sunshine Casey (@sunshinerose), whose art can be described as anything but sunny, though that is not to say it isn’t beautiful, because it is certainly that. Her work is abstract, depicting colors and textures often twisting over or engulfing portraits, often of female faces. Her paintings are hard to describe, like any art that is unique, but the rough and worn textures, muddy colors, and dark stains that form her artistic palette express a haunting and ominous uneasiness. Her work takes this feeling, and then twists and distorts it into beauty, and these distorted faces do not seem mutilated but rather mystified behind a clouded sea of confusing and powerful emotions. Consequently, like a sea, her work is dark, deep, and incredibly gorgeous.
