Shooting sea pictures is an extension of the timeless human pastime of going to the seaside just to look at it. We can’t help it; it does something special to us to go right up on the edge to look out over its surface and see nothing but waves for a seemingly endless distance. Its enormity is hard to grasp, but we know that it is so much larger than us and that we are so much smaller than it. It makes it easier to let go of the preoccupations that consume our daily routines, our worries, responsibilities, even our hopes and dreams shrink into irrelevance in front of the sea. It reminds us that we are a part of something bigger and it helps us to forget ourselves.
