For this week’s Drawing Challenge, we’ve invited all of our users to use PicsArt Drawing Tools as a passport to Rio De Janeiro. Users will be competing by trying to draw the picture that best captures the spirit of Brazilian Carnival, and we wanted to offer a little help by providing this drawing tutorial which breaks down how to use PicsArt Drawing Tools to paint a Carnival dancer. This tutorial will show you how to work with PicsArt Drawing Tools in layers to tackle your drawing in stages. If anything, it will at least provide you with a source of inspiration for this week’s challenge. Try following this tutorial to exercise your skills for this week’s contest, so you’ll be in tip top shape for creating your own drawing. You might also want to consider putting on some Samba music in the background to help you concentrate.
Step 1: Open PicsArt Drawing Tools
Select “Draw” from the main screen and then select “Draw blank” to start a new drawing from scratch. You have the option of choosing the precise width, height, and orientation of your drawing before entering your work space.
Step 2: Draw Outline
Create a rough outline of your dancer, choosing the angle, perspective, and placement of her body. Then, reduce the opacity and trace a much more precise outline in a higher layer, with a smooth body and head shape, as well as facial features. When done, delete your rough outline.
Step 3: Final Outline
Reduce the opacity again, and in a higher layer, draw your dancer’s Carnival themed clothing, and be sure to draw plenty of feathers. When done, restore the opacity of the layer containing the outline of her body to 100%.
Step 4: Color the Drawing
Add another layer, and use it to color in your drawing. Choose different colors by selecting the color box from the menu bar, and try your best to stay between the lines.
Step 5: Add Shading
With a black brush, cover all of the parts of your athlete that you want shaded in a new layer. Then, reduce the opacity bar somewhere below 40%, and use an eraser to smooth out the edges of your shadows. You can also add a layer at the back of your drawing to color in your background.
Step 6: Add Lighting
Add another new layer, and with a white translucent brush, create accents of light wherever necessary. You can also use various tones of colors to add detail to your dancer, like stripes on her feathers or makeup on her face. You can also add texture to your background for a more vibrant total look.
Step 7: Use the Editor
Confirm your drawing by clicking the checkmark, and use the editor to enhance your photo. Use lens flares, effects, bokeh masks, or any one of PicsArt’s awesome editing options to take your photo over the top for this week’s contest!
