Welcome back to Picsart’s bi-weekly trends blog, where we show you the viral trends you can jump on to help promote your small business and have fun while doing it. It’s no secret that the trend cycle moves rapidly, so make the most of these while you can and embrace creativity to make them your own. Here are 3 that could work for a whole host of small businesses:

Scram!

@reallygoodimpressions

PSA to any guy that tries to talk to my girl #boyfriend #girlfriend #relationship

♬ where is my mind (piano version) – your movie soundtrack

The trend: A video created by TikTok user, @reallygoodimpressions (otherwise known as Kel) has become the most recent trend sweeping the platform. In the original content, Kel jokingly threatens the viewer by telling them to “scram” and telling them that “she doesn’t want to talk to you”. Although the original video refers to the creator’s partner, other users have been repurposing the clip by overlaying it on a different background and adding text to suit other purposes. Brands have been quick to jump on this, so now is the perfect time to relate this to your business.

How you can use it: Find an image of your products or a plain background, before overlaying the clip. For an organic beauty brand with luxury ingredients, your text may read “Me to people who suggest using lower quality ingredients to increase my profits”, or if you’re a cake shop, text such as “When people tell us they think that red velvet is an overrated flavor” may work best with your offering.

Disappointment Sound

@lauurenanderson

♬ sad SpongeBob music – michael

The trend: The popular sound originates from the show SpongeBob SquarePants, and is synonymous with scenes where the famous sponge has failed at a task or is generally upset. The audio clip is now making its rounds on both TikTok and Instagram and has been used in an extensive variety of ways, from creators posting personal stories to large brands, such as airlines, creating original content with the sound.

How you can use it: Think of problems that your product or service addresses and play on this. For example, if you’re a jewelry brand, make a joke about a ring not from your brand turning a finger green, or if you offer freelance social media services, focus on how potential clients may put in hours of work for little or no engagement across their channels.

Rory Gilmore Fall

♬ Rory Gilmore Fall – ♡𝒞𝒽𝑒𝓇𝓇𝓎 𝒸𝑜𝓁𝒶♡

The trend: This trend is all about embracing a fall, just like a Gilmore girl. The audio that sparked the trend is a mash up of a sound clip from the popular show, along with the song Head Over Heels by 80’s British pop duo, Tears for Fears. Creators start by lip-syncing the character Rory’s monologue to the camera about looking “pretty and girly”, before stepping back to reveal an autumnal outfit. Other users have simply been using the trending sound to show off some of their favorite fall items and products.

How you can use it: If you are a small fashion or accessories brand, this is your time to shine. There are a number of ways you can use this trend. The first of these includes choosing your brand’s favorite pieces and creating a fall outfit, inspired by Gilmore Girls’ fashion. Think long fitted coats, knee high boots, and cozy turtlenecks. Another way to use this trend is to set static images of your products to this trending audio to create a carousel for your Instagram feed or TikTok.

VMA memes

The trend: The MTV VMAs took place earlier this week and the memes have been flowing in full force. The star-studded line up, included performances from Sabrina Carpenter, Tyla, Eminem, Chappell Roan, and Camila Cabello, as well as appearances from Tyla, Taylor Swift, Post Malone and many, many more familiar faces. It’s almost guaranteed that each year that the VMAs will produce new viral moments, and this year was no exception.

How you can use it: Take your pick from one of the many clips or images from the event, and match it to a situation relevant to your business. For example, if you’re a social media manager, you could use a clip of Camila Cabello smashing a laptop and include text saying ‘When your scheduled post didn’t publish’ or ‘Me when I see I’ve spelled my client’s name wrong in a campaign deck’. You may alternatively choose to use an image of Eminem and his lookalikes and caption it ‘What it feels like to be a one person marketing team.’ The opportunities are endless – find the content that’s best for you and tailor it to your business.

I don’t want to feel that type of pain again

The trend: This new trend has been gaining momentum over the last day or two, with creators using the sound in their own ways. The song in question includes the lyrics ‘I don’t want to feel that type of pain again.’ By overlaying the sound on top of video content, some users have been including a reference to a memory or event, which is then followed by the trend’s key lyrics.

How you can use it: Give your content a comedic edge by using this song to say that you don’t want to go back to the pain you felt without the product or service your small business offers, or perhaps reference a time when it wasn’t available. For example, your text could read ‘Do you remember when you missed Creative Coffee’s new flavor drop and it sold out in 10 minutes?’ This is a super versatile trend, so find a way to make it relevant to your audience and get posting!

Two steps ahead

The trend: A trending audio of a quote from a video by popular creator, Nikocado Avocado, has seen a resurgence this week after having made the rounds on social media for quite some time. The audio features the words “Two steps ahead, I am always two steps ahead.” Users are jumping on this trend to mention a time when they were ahead of the curve, or surpassed a personal best.

How you can use it: Show how your business is a leader, whether this is from starting trends as a freelance marketer, or coming up with new formulas for your hair care line. Your content could either feature the team behind the magic with text indicating how the business has stayed ahead of the game, or show clips of your products, with text overlaid including quotes and positive reviews from customers about how their hair has never felt better, or from clients mentioning how you were able to develop an engaged following for them.

Symphony (with dolphins):

@luv4yamii

#dolphin #meme #relatable #dolphinposts #symphony

♬ Originalton – ʏᴀᴍɪᴅᴀʀᴀ ᡣ𐭩ྀིྀིྀི

Trend description: The song Symphony by Clean Bandit has found itself at the heart of multiple viral videos this week. The trend includes the song’s original chorus laid over picturesque graphics of dolphins and rainbows. The twist is that there is a morbid or unpleasant caption in bold white text over the top. The contrast between the unsettling captions against the uplifting audio and backgrounds makes this content funny to watch and leaves a viewer wanting to see more, or understand the context.

How you can use it: Think of a cringe moment or a time when things went seriously wrong for your business. You may think of these times as your biggest failures, but honesty and transparency are two qualities that have made this such a popular trend. Share these stories with your audience, using the original audio and a similar style background. This is a great way to connect with your audience.

Dopamine menu:

nothing has been more healing than slowing down & enjoying the simple things in life away from my phone 💌 theres so much sweetness all around us!! #dopamine #dopaminemenu #slowliving #lifestyle #wifelife #cozyathome #homemade #inthekitchen

Trend description: This trend has seen huge popularity on TikTok over the past week. The dopamine menu trend involves social media users showing the audience all the things they do to bring them joy when needed. It is something to refer back to when feeling down, or when you just simply need a break.

How you can use it: Show others how your product or service can fit into their dopamine menu. Think about what you love about your offering what others might too. Consider how this will this help to bring them joy. What do you want your audience to know about your brand? This is a great trend to show how your online yoga classes, or the fresh pastries you make daily, can take a spot on someone’s dopamine menu.

♬ apple x supercut – jevan

Trend description: This is a trend which is both aspirational and relatable, as well as easy to join in on. This and yap entails the creator showing an environment, often with food or drinks, that they enjoy being in to catch up with friends, have a chat with colleagues or spend time with family. Used in both video and photo content, the image or video simply has ‘this and yap’ written over the top. Simple, but effective.

How you can use it: This is a fantastic opportunity for cafe owners, drink brand founders and restaurateurs to show off their locations and offering. Film a short clip (only a few seconds long) of your establishment or product, and use text over the top reading ‘this and yap’. Add the APPLE X SUPERCUT audio by @jevanmusic on TikTok, and you’re done!
