The sensor itself is only as sensitive as your lowest ISO setting &ndash; usually ISO 100. When you turn your digital ISO up one stop, the camera&#8217;s computer simply doubles the pixel values that are assigned.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\"><span>Effects of ISO<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 23px; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>Of course, the main effect of ISO is to make the picture lighter. Sometimes it seems like half of a photographer&#8217;s life is spent trying to get more light when there is not enough, and ISO is an important way to do it. Raising the ISO allows you to to get better exposures under low light, without altering the content by changing the aperture or shutter speed, which have more creative applications; the ISO mainly affects the overall image quality.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdnblog.picsart.com\/2013\/08\/18183285395.jpeg?r1024x1024\" alt=\"what is iso\" width=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\"><span>Brighter Pictures, Brighter Noise<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 23px; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>Every factor comes with a trade-off. As you multiply the light information, the sharpness tends to degrade as <\/span><span>noise<\/span><span> pops up between the pixels. This effect is more pronounced at high megapixel counts, since there are more dots for the noise to emerge between; however, modern technology has improved high-ISO performance significantly in recent years. Every camera will render noise differently, but the image quality will always suffer to some extent as the ISO climbs higher. The option is available on almost every digital camera, as well as on most smart phone cameras. On a high-end camera there might be a dedicated ISO button; otherwise it will be in your settings. On the PicsArt camera, it is in the menu indicated by three squares in a line.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10px;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn14.picsart.com\/44012966049.jpeg?r1024x1024\" alt=\"what is iso\" width=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>When you&#8217;re taking a photograph, use the lowest ISO you can get away with for the best image quality. If it&#8217;s a cloudless, sunny day, you should be using 100 or 200 ISO. In the shade, in the evening, or in grey weather, 400 is about right. You&#8217;ll need 800 or 1600 in darker conditions only, such as indoors or at night.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-7410981c-62c5-7460-f76d-cd1e8759d568\"><span>Some cameras won&#8217;t let you change the ISO if you&#8217;re in Auto mode.
