The favorite then becomes a video walkthrough, and inspiration images found online get pulled into an empty studio apartment, an AI room redesign from start to finish.

Ever looked around a room and wondered what it would be like to completely change everything? Maybe you want a cozy little reading corner. Maybe you are moving into a dorm and have no idea what you want it to look like yet. Or maybe you have been scrolling for hours, saving every room that catches your eye, and still cannot picture any of it in your space. There is a lot of planning, measuring, shopping and mood boarding involved, and sometimes you just want to see the idea first. Here is every step.

How nodes work in Picsart Flow

Everything in this walkthrough happens in Picsart Flow, and it all runs on nodes. Nodes are the building blocks of a workflow. They let you generate new images, videos or text, and connect those creations together so each new step can build on what came before. Think of it as creating your room one idea at a time.

The connections between nodes are what make this work. They allow you to use existing images, videos or text as references for whatever you generate next. That is how one dorm photo turns into a cleared room, then a wider room, then four decorated versions of it.

What this AI room redesign creates

Everything below comes out of one canvas, and you can open the same setup from the AI room redesign workflow. One plain dorm photo is the only starting point. Here is everything it turns into by the end:

Four styled versions of one dorm room: boho chic, clean modern, folk Americana and colorful surreal.

A daytime and an evening version of the room, to check how the lighting changes the mood.

A 10-second video walkthrough of the favorite design.

An empty studio apartment furnished from two inspiration photos, with one light fixture swapped for a reference image.

Prepare the room before you redesign it

The first three steps do not decorate anything. They give you a clean, wide, empty room to experiment on, and every design later in the canvas builds on this version. Each one takes a single connected node and a short prompt.

Step 1. Upload a photo of the room

From the Picsart homepage, click Flow on the left-hand side. On the Flow homepage, click New Workflow. You will see a bunch of starting options, but for this walkthrough, start with your own image and upload a photo of the room directly from your device. The uploaded photo becomes an image node on the canvas.

Step 2. Take the person out of the shot

The dorm photo in this example has a person standing in it, so the first job is getting them out of the picture to focus on the actual room. Click the right side of the image node, drag, release and select Image to create a connected image node. In the prompt box of the new node, ask Flow to delete the model. Below the prompt you can choose from a range of image models, and this walkthrough uses Nano Banana Pro. Leave the ratio on Auto and the quality at 1080p, then hit the pink Run button. The person is gone, and the whole room is finally visible.

Step 3. Widen the walls for more space to work with

A little more wall space on either side gives you more room to experiment. Create another connected image node, change the ratio to 16:9 for a wide view, and ask Flow to resize the image. Flow extends the wall to give a larger canvas to work with, and the new space blends in seamlessly.

Four AI room redesign ideas from one dorm room

Step 4. Duplicate the blank room into four canvases

Now comes the fun part. Duplicate the widened room a few times and line the copies up, so you have four blank canvases. That means four versions of the same room, ready for four completely different vibes. Each design below starts from its own copy.

Boho chic with earth tones

The first idea is a warm, earthy, boho chic dorm. In a new connected image node, the prompt asks Flow to decorate the room with earth tone bedding, a macrame wall hanging, a few potted plants on the desk and twinkle lights in the top corners of the wall. After checking the settings and hitting Run, the room is getting somewhere, but there is room to take it further. So the next connected image node adds warm-toned and neutral rugs to the floor, a boho chic plush lounge chair by the window behind the bed, a laptop, a vintage desk lamp and a messy grid of Polaroids above the desk. The building allows painting and decorating the walls, so another node paints the room a pastel terracotta color and fills the wall on the right with concert posters and college memorabilia. One more thing needs checking: the lighting. A room can look completely different during the day than at night, so the last node in this branch switches the lighting to evening.

Clean, modern and grown-up

The second option goes in a more grown-up direction: clean, modern and sophisticated, the kind of room that looks like its owner has their whole life together. This version swaps the strip lighting on the ceiling for lanterns and adds matching decor and a bean bag. Both the daytime and the nighttime versions work. The room feels calm and comfortable, like the kind of space you would actually want to come home to after a long day.

Folk Americana with a rustic feel

The third design takes a completely different direction: a folk Americana style with a rustic feel and cooler tones. The prompt adds wooden and leather furniture, a quilted bed set and striped walls to pull the look together. This branch is also where the layout gets an experiment. The bed and the desk flip to opposite sides of the room, and the chest becomes storage seating next to the desk. The new setup works even better. The window light hits the wall really nicely, the space has a real connection to nature, and it feels cozy in a spend-your-Sunday-morning-here kind of way.

Colorful and surreal

The final design goes big. This one has a colorful, surreal look with a pink wraparound curtain, a checkered rug, brightly patterned bedding and furniture inspired by mid-century modern design. It is already fun, but a small bean bag seating area by the window makes the room more social, perfect for friends coming over.

Turn the favorite design into a video walkthrough

Four designs later, the boho chic room is the clear favorite. Still images only go so far, though, so the last step for the dorm is seeing what it would feel like to walk through the space. A connected video node turns the still design into a moving walkthrough of the room.

Step 5. Animate the room with a connected video node

Take the favorite design, create a connected video node, and prompt it for an interior design video walkthrough showcasing the room. This walkthrough uses Kling 2.5 as the video model, with the duration set to 10 seconds and the quality at 720p. Then hit Run. Seeing the camera move through the room makes a big difference. It gives a much better sense of the space, how everything fits together, and where the decor might actually go.

Decorate a room with AI from inspiration photos

Everyone is guilty of this one. You scroll for way too long looking for home inspiration, find that one perfect living room with the dream sofa, gorgeous artwork and amazing lighting, and immediately wonder whether it would look good in your own apartment. Flow can answer that question.

Step 6. Connect an inspiration photo to an empty room

Start with a photo of a blank studio apartment, then upload an interior you found online and love. Create an image node, make sure both the inspiration image and the blank studio are connected to it, and ask Flow to integrate the decor and the overall wall and floor color into the empty studio apartment. After checking the settings and hitting Run, the furniture, colors and overall interior from the inspiration image appear inside the studio apartment. It is an easy way to test whether a style you love online actually works with your space before you start moving furniture around or spend any money.

Step 7. Test a second style with the same prompt

The second inspiration photo is a moodier living room with darker furniture and pops of bright blue: elegant, a little dramatic and very chic. Once again, create a connected image node, use the same prompt, and hit Run. The furniture and overall style work surprisingly well in the space.

Step 8. Fix the details with a reference image

A couple of things still need changing. The white lantern on the ceiling does not quite work, and one wall feels a little too empty. Luckily, both are fixable.

Upload a photo of a ceiling lamp you found online, create a new connected image node, and connect the lamp reference to it. Then ask for a white pastel sheer curtain over the window and for the ceiling lamp to be replaced with the reference, blending naturally into the scene. The old white lantern is replaced with the referenced light fixture, and the sheer curtain adds some really nice texture to the room.

Start from the AI room redesign workflow

The canvas behind every image in this post is ready to open as the AI room redesign workflow. Upload a photo of your own room in place of the dorm and follow the same steps.
