You can blur the background of a photo you already have in two ways in Picsart, and both let AI find the subject instead of you tracing an outline. AI Playground<\/a> is the other route, and it works differently. You upload the photo, pick an image editing model, and describe the blur you want in words, which means you can ask for a gradual falloff, round glowing highlights, or a distraction removed and the rest softened in the same pass.<\/p>\n

Neither needs Portrait mode, a fast lens, or a photo taken any particular way. This guide covers both, with the prompts for the second one and the reason blur prompts fail when you write them short.<\/p>\n

Smart Blur<\/a> is an AI-powered filter that detects the subject of the photo on its own and blurs the background behind it. GBlur sits beside it as the second AI-powered option in the same menu. Start here even if you end up adjusting the result afterwards.<\/p>\n

Step 1. Open your photo in Picsart<\/h3>\n

Start a project and upload the photo you want to blur. The steps are the same in the Picsart app on iPhone and Android and in the web editor, so use whichever already has the photo on it.<\/p>\n

Step 2. Choose Smart Blur<\/h3>\n

Open the Effects menu and go to the Blur section. Smart Blur is among the filters there. Apply it and Picsart works out where the subject ends and the background begins, then blurs the background on its own. Nothing to select, no edges to trace.<\/p>\n

Step 3. Adjust the strength and the fade<\/h3>\n

The automatic result is a starting point, not a finished edit. Use the customization sliders to set how strong the blur is and how far it fades. Blend Modes are there too if you want to darken or lighten the effect, or multiply it for a heavier blur.<\/p>\n

A light touch reads as more convincing than a heavy one. If the background is unrecognisable you have gone past a camera blur and into an obvious edit, which is sometimes the point and often not.<\/p>\n

Step 3. Write the prompt in two halves<\/h3>\n

Name the change, then name everything that must not move. The second half is the one people skip, and it is the reason blur prompts fail.<\/p>\n

They fail in one specific way: the background softens correctly and the subject comes back subtly different, a slightly altered face, a smoothed jacket, a jawline that is not the one you photographed. "Blur the background" is an instruction about the background only, so the model is free to touch everything you did not mention. The lock list is what stops it.<\/p>\n
