We\u2019ve spent a lot of time thinking about what makes Picsart unique and wanted to give you, our community, a little peek behind the scenes of our design thinking. Almost unattainable. Today\u2019s popular design software is intricate, expensive, and requires months, if not years, of training. With AI-powered smart tools, unique templates, and a vibrant community, it\u2019s easy to create in Picsart without feeling overwhelmed. And, I would argue that when it\u2019s easy to create, it makes the process itself way more enjoyable. Hello Picsart.<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s talk about our new wordmark (a wordmark is a fancy way of referring to the way we designed the word \u2018Picsart\u2019 in our app and marketing). When kicking off our rebrand work, we had to be brutally honest with ourselves. The old wordmark was a little too close to Comic Sans for comfort, especially for a company in the design business. And after lots of iterations, we landed on a look that felt like a perfect evolution from the previous one. We love the geometric shapes and how modern the new wordmark feels without appearing too complex or overly sophisticated. It\u2019s approachable and design-minded, just like Picsart.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-45015\" src=\"https:\/\/cdnblog.picsart.com\/2021\/07\/image_4-1.gif\" alt=\"animated gif showing different picsart logo ideas and typography for rebrand\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Branding, logos, and type are very nuanced crafts that require a keen eye and fresh perspective to stand out and cut through the noise. With the help of the talented team at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenewcompany.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New Company<\/span><\/a>,<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> we were able to bring our vision for Picsart to life through beautiful new visuals. You\u2019ll begin to see them roll out across various Picsart touchpoints like this blog post, in our newsletter, and beyond.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And did you notice we lower cased the \u2018a\u2019 in Picsart? It\u2019s not a typo. Our platform has grown and become much more than a picture editor, so we decided to turn our name into one word that takes the emphasis off of the separation between Pictures and Art. While it\u2019s humbling to have a global community contributing their own edits, remixes, and perspectives on design, creating a visual system out of it can be chaotic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the immediate things we wanted to solve with the new brand was how to continue championing all the different editing styles we have on the platform, while giving it a consistent look that would be immediately recognizable. Ultimately, our approach was inspired by art museums and galleries. They have a similar problem \u2013 each gallery hosts different artists and styles, and yet there needs to be a common thread throughout the entire space. So how do museums do it? What ties all of the art together? Picture frames.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our &#8216;frame&#8217; is a bespoke background gradient that is created by borrowing three prominent colors from each creation we feature. Our team created an entirely new design system to make both the <a href=\"https:\/\/picsart.app.link\/4pv7HdD7S9\">Picsart app and web experience<\/a> more consistent and cohesive. We\u2019re also working on more creator-friendly design flows. I\u2019ve seen countless examples of creators taking a seemingly boring image and remixing it into something fantastical and surreal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The majority of our creators (including our own designers) use photography as a starting point instead of beginning with a blank white canvas. So we chose to build our own bank of brand imagery.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We partnered with photographer<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/jacqharriet.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Jacq Harriet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to help us find models that represent our vibrant, diverse, and unique community. You\u2019ll notice some of these new brand photos in our blog headers, website images, and in-app.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-44826\" src=\"https:\/\/cdnblog.picsart.com\/2021\/07\/Image_8-780x387.jpg\" alt=\"sketch, posed, and final edited image of a person looking through a frame\" width=\"780\" height=\"387\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdnblog.picsart.com\/2021\/07\/Image_8-780x387.jpg 780w, https:\/\/cdnblog.picsart.com\/2021\/07\/Image_8-1024x509.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cdnblog.picsart.com\/2021\/07\/Image_8.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 780px) 100vw, 780px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re launching a new brand or undergoing a rebrand project, consider doing your own photoshoot to create custom photography. It\u2019s a great way to truly get in touch with your brand look and feel while capturing content that reflects your user community. If this sounds a little intimidating, don\u2019t worry, we have you covered with some useful tips:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>There\u2019s no need for fancy gear.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> You don\u2019t need an expensive camera or studio to start creating. In fact, sometimes creative constraints lead to more interesting results.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Pick a neutral background. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you want to swap out the background or manipulate whatever you\u2019re shooting, find a background that is easy to isolate. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/picsart.com\/background-remover\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">background remover tool<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Picsart will take it from there.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>When it comes to shadows, it\u2019s all or nothing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. For beginners, I always recommend a well-lit photo with minimal shadows. Or, go for broke. Create heavy shadows for drama (there&#8217;s a reason why <a href=\"https:\/\/picsart.com\/blog\/post\/golden-hour-photography\">photographers love golden hour<\/a>). But try to avoid something in between.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Keep your focus.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Having things appear out of focus (aka \u2018shallow depth of field\u2019) gives an image an elevated look. But fuzzy or blurry items are also harder to isolate and manipulate, so keep your post-production editing in mind. Who is your brand as a person? What kind of personality does it have, and how do you approach it in your writing? We couldn\u2019t have done it without the gracious help of the team at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hermit.co\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hermit<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cA brand is a lot like a person,\u201d Rune Degett, one of Hermit\u2019s co-founders writes. \u201cOne of the big ways personality comes through is in the kind of language a person uses.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As we were developing our own tone, we imagined an art teacher with a rebellious flair. A mentor and a misfit. Someone who always sees your potential, and encourages you to go beyond what you think you might be capable of \u2013 and then some. It can be fictional, a celebrity, or even a friend. We call it a brand \u2018archetype\u2019 or \u2018persona\u2019.
