route Hey guys, if you wanna know what any of these mean, here you go!!! Jug: A large hold that is easily held. Crimp: A tiny edge that requires the climber to bend their fingers in order to effectively hold the rock. Pinch: A small hold that is gripped between a finger and thumb. Arete: The edge if a wall that is at an acute angle like that of a corner of a building. Belay: A method of controlling the climbing rope that is used to prevent a climber from falling should they come of the wall/rock. Bolted Route: A sport climbing route that is protedcted with preplaced bolys that are secured into the wall and act as anchors. Bouldering: A type of climbing that is usually low enough to the ground to be done without the use of ropes for safety. Crux: The most technically difficult section of a climb. Dyno: A term for a dynamic move between one hold to another. A dyno required explosive movement and oftern means that during the leap or lunge, the climber won be touching the rock at all. Edging: A tecnique used to place weight on very small footholds. The climbers use the edge of their foot rather than the sole. Heelhook: When a climber uses their heel to hook onto an edge or foothold to help secure their position on the wall/rock. Layback: when a climber shifts their weight to one side to create enought tension to use a vertical hold or crack for upwards movement. The climber will walk their feet up the wall by pushing away from the weight of their body. Overhang:when the rock is so steep that it goes beyond vertical and hangs over the ground. Smear: When a climber places the sole of the foot on the relatively featureless rock and uses friction to create upward momentum. Under Cling: when a climber pulls up on a downward facing handhold to create opposing tesnion against their feet that are pushing down on an upward faving foothold.
