Your fit pic, buffering like it’s 2007
A street-style photo sits on screen, rendered in soft, chunky pixel art. In the corner, a video quality menu is open: 144p, 240p, 720p, 1080p. A cursor slides down the list and clicks. The pixels shrink. It clicks again. The photo sharpens. By the last click the outfit is fully readable – the cream top, the brown mini skirt, the iced coffee, the scrunched white socks.
That is the pixel trend, and the joke lands before anyone has to explain it. Everyone has sat through a video buffering at 144p and reached for the settings gear. The trend takes that exact muscle memory and points it at a fit pic.
User @moonsol.design recreated the trend and the results are impressive – the entire build, from the pixel art to the animated cursor, happens inside Picsart.
What is the pixel trend?
Three ingredients, and two of them are generated rather than edited:
- The pixel-art versions. Your photo gets converted into clean retro sprite art, generated more than once at different pixel sizes. That gives you a chunky version and a finer version of the same frame.
- The cursor asset. A short AI-generated clip of a mouse cursor moving down a video quality dropdown – 144p, 240p, 720p, 1080p – highlighting each option as it goes.
- The split. The photo versions sit under the cursor clip on a timeline, cut at the exact frame of every click, so the image resolves one step sharper each time the cursor lands.
The format is describable in one sentence: a cursor picks a video quality and your photo obeys.

Why it works
- The payoff is built into the interface. The dropdown tells viewers exactly how many reveals are coming and where the last one lands. That is a progress bar disguised as a joke, and progress bars keep people watching.
- Pixel art flatters an outfit. Sprite-style shading collapses a photo into flat color blocks, which reads as intentional styling rather than a low-quality image. The fit gets graphic, poster-like treatment on the way up.
- Two AI steps replace an hour of manual work. Nobody is hand-animating a cursor or hand-pixelating a photo. One image model and one video model produce both assets, and the timeline just cuts between them.
- It carries any subject. Fit pics, pets, cars, food, artwork, a room tour still. The mechanic supplies the structure, so the photo only needs to be worth resolving.
- The remix space is wide open. Change the menu, change the joke. Playback speed, file size, loading percentage, render quality – the cursor-picks-a-setting frame holds up across all of them.
The whole build runs on three Picsart tools: GPT Image 2 in the AI Playground for the pixel art, Seedance 2.0 in the AI Video Generator for the cursor asset, and the Video Editor to cut them together.
How to make the pixel trend in Picsart
1. Go to Picsart and choose the GPT Image 2 feature
Open Picsart and pick GPT Image 2 from the featured AI models in the AI Playground.
2. Upload your photo
Tap the reference slot and upload your photo, either from your device or from Picsart Drive.
3. Enter the prompt and generate
Paste the pixel art prompt from the section below into the prompt field, then tap Generate.
4. Generate two versions with different pixel size
Run it again with the pixel size changed, so you have two versions of the same frame. Download each one as a PNG.
5. Go to the Seedance 2.0 image to video tool
Head back to the home screen and open Seedance 2.0, or go straight to the AI Video Generator. Set the output to 16:9, 720p, 10 seconds.
6. Prompt the cursor asset
Prompt Seedance with: Create an animation where the cursor is choosing the pixel size, starting from 144p, then 240p, and ending with 720p. Generate, then download the result as an MP4.
7. Go back, select Videos, and open edit video
Return to the home screen, switch to the Videos tab and choose edit video to open the Picsart Video Editor.
8. Choose your photos, then add the video
Add the photos to the timeline, then choose add video and bring in the cursor clip on top.
9. Adjust the size
Resize the cursor video so the dropdown sits over the photo underneath it.
10. Split each photo just when the cursor clicks
Split each photo at the point the cursor clicks. Export, and done.
One cursor, a few pixel sizes, and a photo that loads
The pixel trend is a rare edit where the technique and the punchline are the same move. You are not decorating a photo. You are staging its arrival, and the staging costs two generations and a handful of splits.
The best part is how little of it is manual. One model turns the photo into sprite art, another animates the cursor, and the editor just cuts between them. Everything that looks technical in the finished clip came out of a prompt.
