Now that our Oasis Drawing Challenge has come to a close, it’s time to announce this week’s 10 winning drawings. For the past week, we have challenged users to use PicsArt Drawing Tools to draw desert oases, and in total, users answered with 328 superb drawings. A desert oasis was a perfect theme, as these patches of flourishing vegetation have a somewhat mystical reputation. They appear to travelers like a paradise in the middle of hundreds of miles of bare sand, and sometimes disappear if they are simply mirages. This mystical quality carried through into the drawing styles of users, who managed to draw some truly magical images.
Leah Taylor (@leahtaylor) had an exceptional week, as she managed to capture first and third place with her two different entries. Leah is an experienced user whose talents have become well-known in the PicsArt community, but this week she outdid herself. Her first place entry won 1129 votes. This waterfall was rendered among beautifully drawn palms and flowers, with a lens flare for an added stylistic touch.
Beautifully Flawed (@daffylaye) placed second with one of the strongest entries we’ve seen in any contest, and a final total of 652 votes. Her nighttime desert oasis melts and swirls like a painting by Van Gogh or Dali, with orange desert sand bleeding into the deep blues of the night sky. This surreal entry was an amazing artistic achievement.
It was no coincidence that Leah Taylor took two of the top three spots, as her third place entry was equally stunning, ending up with a total of 624 votes. Leah drew silhouetted camels against a desert sunset, reflecting them in the watering hole below.
Our Jury’s Pick this week of the best drawing that didn’t get the votes needed to break into the top 10 was this one by Felipe (@felipunk). Felipe also went for the surreal approach, embedding the outlines of a woman’s body into the shadows of the desert sands. This creative optical illusion made Felipe’s entry stand apart from the rest.
