Starting a business can be a daunting concept, but for Picsart’s Melody Nazarian, this hasn’t dissuaded her. In late 2024, Melody launched ‘Taropy by Melody,’ a tarot reading business with a twist. We’ve been following along with Melody’s journey as she’s been navigating the fundamentals of starting her very own venture. Previously, we were introduced to Melody, and discussed how she’s turning her dream into a reality. In this installment, we explore how Melody has approached her marketing, what she’s found worked, and which tasks she’s prioritized. 

Finding the Right Platforms

Marketing a tarot business in today’s digital age requires tapping into the right channels. Melody has experimented with multiple platforms but found that TikTok has been the most effective in reaching a broad audience.

“So far, I have found that my content is performing best on TikTok. It has a wider reach for my type of content. I post at least one video per day,” she shares. While Instagram and YouTube don’t attract as many views, Melody notes that “I have gotten more actual leads from IG than TT.” This balance of reach versus conversion is something she keeps in mind as her tactics continue to evolve.

Learning from the Best

Building a brand comes with continuous learning and adaptation. Melody has leaned on several resources to focus her marketing outputs.

“Along with Picsart’s Small Business Starter Pack, which offered a lot of good business tidbits, I generally listen to a lot of podcasts about successful people/entrepreneurs,” she explains. One of her favorites? The Diary of a CEO by Steven Bartlett.

Her passion for pop culture also plays a significant role in her strategy. “My interest in popular culture has definitely helped me in terms of knowing which trends to jump on and how to create compelling content people will find interesting.”

Marketing Strategies That Work

Melody has identified a few key marketing strategies that have been particularly effective in growing her audience:

  • Posting once per day to maintain engagement and visibility.
  • Staying authentic to her personality and purpose.
  • Experimenting with new content ideas to see what resonates most.
  • Mixing up her content with tarot readings, educational posts, inspirational quotes, and trend-driven videos.
  • Hosting in-person events to establish deeper connections with her audience.

AI for Content

Even as a writer, Melody admits that crafting social media captions isn’t her strong suit. Luckily, AI tools have stepped in to fill the gap.

I also make it a point to host in-person events once per month to keep spreading the word on my services.” By focusing on high-quality content and first-hand interactions, she ensures that her brand continues to grow, through both online and offline means.

Tracking Progress Without Pressure

While analytics can be a useful tool for data-driven growth, Melody prefers not to get too caught up in the numbers  in the early stages.

“So far, I’m only using the insights that TikTok and IG provide (views, comments, shares, etc). Because I’m still building my brand, I don’t want to focus too heavily on numbers.”

Instead, she trusts the process. She’s confident that staying consistent and organic growth are the way forward: “I put in the work consistently and stay true to my purpose. I like to focus on my ‘why’.’”
