Welcome back to Picsart’s bi-weekly trends blog, where we show you the viral trends you can jump on to help promote your small business and have fun while doing it. It’s no secret that the trend cycle moves rapidly, so make the most of these while you can and embrace creativity to make them your own. Here are 3 that could work for a whole host of small businesses:

We Listen and We Don’t Judge

@abbottlyon

We listen and we don’t judge: office edition #welistenandwedontjudge

♬ original sound – Abbott Lyon

The trend: A new content trend focuses on confessions! Creators are inviting friends, family, or colleagues to take turns sharing secrets while the listener promises not to judge or react negatively. These unexpected truths often escalate in outrageousness, keeping viewers hooked as the video progresses.

How You Can Use It: For small businesses, this trend is a fun way to showcase authenticity. Partner with a coworker or collaborator to reveal relatable, behind-the-scenes confessions about your work or business. Be prepared to laugh and maybe even surprise your audience with your honesty!

The trend: TikTok users are celebrating the things they love with short videos set to an audio clip saying, “Now this is 10 out of 10.” These quick videos feature products, places, or experiences that hold special value to the creator.

How You Can Use It:
This trend is perfect for showcasing your brand in seconds. Highlight your best products, a unique location, or a memorable experience your business offers. Use the “10/10” audio to add a touch of fun and positivity, and make sure your visuals shine to grab attention quickly.

“Everyone, I Have an Announcement” (Wicked Audio)

@notleahhhbeauty

Ad- THIS WEEKEND 16-17 November at Oslo Raw frogner! 🥹❤️ @Dorah @Oslo RAW💋

♬ original sound – arianagrande

The trend: With the buzz around the Wicked movie, an audio clip from its trailer has taken social media by storm. Creators are using this dramatic sound to announce exciting news or new products. These videos typically start with the creator lip-syncing before transitioning to the item they’re spotlighting.

How You Can Use It:
Film yourself lip-syncing to the line, “Everyone, I have an announcement.” Then, transition to showcase your latest product, event, or offer. Create an eye-catching setup to ensure your announcement feels as exciting as the trend itself!

AI Cat

@picsart

oops!! #picsart #cat

♬ オリジナル楽曲 – animaldance – animaldance

The trend: AI dancing cats have been taking over FYPs, inspiring many creators to try out the dance for themselves. Short clips of AI cats in different costumes have gained popularity over the last month or so, causing a dance-fueled frenzy to break out. Users have been arguing over the correct way to perform the dance, often captioning their videos with something like, “Since none of y’all are doing the AI cat dance right,” before performing the routine in the way they perceive to be correct. A word of warning—once you’ve watched the dancing cat videos, you may find it difficult to get the related song out of your head.

How you can use it: It’s time to let loose and get your dancing shoes on! First, have a go at learning the dance. You can either do this by watching the original AI cat videos or other creators’ interpretations of the dance. Once you’ve recorded your video, think about what kind of caption would resonate with your audience. Keep things lighthearted and funny to match the vibe of the trend. For example: “When you thought starting a social media agency was going to be glamorous, but most of your days end up looking like this,” or, “Customers keep asking me to restock berry lip balm, but I’m busy rn.”

Oopsie (Camera Flip)

@picsart

OOPSIE!! #smallbusinesstok #marketingtips #picsart

♬ Lovely (Violin) – bitchbaby

The trend: This trend is all about stating a controversial opinion or something you feel strongly about, using it as a way to showcase your products or offerings while laughing at yourself. Creators jumping on the trend first film away from themselves using their back camera, then overlay text with the statement or opinion. The camera is then flipped (seemingly by accident) to reveal the creator, usually the owner of a brand, someone well-known who holds the stated opinion, or a creator with a clear, specific interest.

How you can use it: As the owner of a small business or solopreneur, this is a great way to express your mission directly. Start by filming away from yourself for a few seconds. Then, flip your camera around to record yourself using the front camera. Pretend to be shocked (as though you’ve been caught out) and scramble to turn the camera off. Over your first clip, add the opinion or statement, like: “Guys, can we all agree to shop exclusively from sustainable small businesses this Christmas?” or, “I honestly think the only skincare brand that really works is (the name of your brand).” When you flip the camera, add text like “oops” or “oh no.” This trend takes less than a minute to jump on!

That’s My Life

@carla.caboo

that’s my life 🤍 #gracieabrams

♬ original sound – ⋆˚࿔ diva 𝜗𝜚˚⋆ – ⋆˚࿔ diva 𝜗𝜚˚⋆

The trend: Creators are using this trend to recap their year, often showing how their lives have improved over the course of 2024. These clips authentically show the progression of the creator’s year, giving audiences an inside look into their lives and fostering a deeper connection with followers. A sped-up clip of the song That’s So True by Gracie Abrams forms the basis of this trend, playing over all the clips.

How you can use it: This trend simply involves compiling a range of clips from your camera roll, splicing them together, and adding the song over the top. As a small business, use any clips you have that show your progress over the year, along with footage of your team (or just you, if you’re a solopreneur) having fun or working on the business.

Suspect

@amelia.liana

SHE GOT THE TREND😭🫠💀 #suspect #suspecttrend

♬ original sound – Amelia Liana

The trend: This trend requires a tough skin and a sense of humor, as it’s all about roasting (and getting roasted). Usually, this trend involves two, but sometimes three or four, people taking turns filming each other running. The person running away is described by the one filming, as though they are a suspect being chased by the police. The descriptions often take the form of a playful insult with an element of truth.

How you can use it: Brands and small businesses can use this trend to create funny content that showcases their brand personality. For example, an activewear brand could film two friends running, with one saying, “Suspect thinks they’re the most fashionable in every room but actually just wears Jenny’s Joggers with every outfit,” and the other saying, “Suspect tricks everyone into thinking she’s a pilates princess but only goes to reformer classes to wear cute matching sets.” Filming ‘suspects’ in your brand’s pieces will help draw in your ideal audience, while keeping your brand authentic and relatable on social media.

The Council Has Decided Your Fate

@lanaeastereggg

This is so silly #stardewvalley

♬ original sound – Voicemod 🎙 – Voicemod 🎙

The trend: This is a fun trend to try if you have a collection or set of similar items, such as plush toys, makeup products, or any other items you can place in a circle. These products or items are arranged in a circle, initially facing away from the camera with text overlay reading, “The council is deciding your fate.” In the next shot, the products face the camera, accompanied by the text, “They have decided.” The final video reveals the viewer’s ‘fate’ in a creative and engaging way.

How you can use it: This is a perfect trend to try if your business has physical products to sell. If your items don’t necessarily have a ‘face’ or front, like toys do, get creative! Add googly eyes, or make this trend your own by finding a unique twist. Pick a ‘fate’ that would resonate with your target audience, and get posting!

Brackets (with Real Meanings)

@iluvy0u.0

😊😊 #fypシ #real #trend #viral #relateable #relationship #boyfriend #crush #situationship #husband #couple #him #bae

♬ sonido original – Ximena 🏎️

The trend: This trend is for anyone who loves to exaggerate and tell stories. Creators craft a fictional story that mirrors a real experience they’ve had, adding the real meaning in brackets after each line or sentence for a humorous effect.

How you can use it: This trend offers many possibilities for small businesses. You could use it to tell a story that details a day in the life of someone working at your business or a day in the life of a customer using your service or product. For example, an employee might post, “The feeling when you sail the seven seas (take a busy subway) to get to the magical kingdom (the office) to reunite with your long-lost family (your coworkers who you literally saw yesterday).” The creative potential of this trend is limitless, so dive in and make it your own!

The trend: A funny clip from a 2016 episode of the show Broad City recently started circulating on social media. The scene features two women in a nightclub having a conversation. There is a miscommunication between the two, as one does not understand what the other is saying. The audio has since been used in thousands of videos, often representing a misunderstanding between two individuals, with many also using it to refer to a niche interest.

How you can use it: This is a fun way to reinforce a sense of community with your followers. Use this as an opportunity to connect with your audience and make them feel as though they are in on an inside joke. One way your brand could do this is by overlaying your own text referring to your products, such as “When I see someone else using Nature Berry lip gloss.” Pretend to wave at someone as the audio begins to play the words “Do you know them?” Grab a colleague or friend to mimic the audio with.

Spoil it all by saying something stupid

@avaachilders

its imbedded in my vocab

♬ sonido original – emilia’s wife

The trend: This is a fun and easy trend where creators reminisce about mistakes or silly errors they’ve made. It involves lip-syncing the chorus of the song “Something Stupid,” but instead of mouthing the words “I love you” at the end, creators substitute it with something embarrassing or incorrect they’ve said or done. Celebrities like Sabrina Carpenter have joined in, along with thousands of other users.

How you can use it: Think about a time when you made a mistake while working on your business – whether it’s changing packaging, making a typo on a product, or making a poor decision. This trend humanizes your brand, and it invites your audience to relate and engage in the comments. It’s a fun way to poke fun at your business while creating a connection with your audience.

The trend: This trend is all about turning unfortunate events caught on camera into funny content. The original video is edited so that it shows the action about to happen, followed by the moment it actually takes place. Creators and businesses alike have used this trend to showcase mishaps with a humorous twist.

How you can use it: As a small business owner or marketer, this trend could be used in a number of ways. Your video could feature an unfortunate circumstance your business faced, such as a piece of pottery that went wrong, or your bread dough falling to the ground (as seen in the example). Alternatively, you can put a positive spin on it: the first clip might show you working hard on your laptop during your business’ early days, and the second clip could show you celebrating a big milestone, illustrating your journey to success.

I wonder where the wind will take me

@sommyyah

🫢💎 #wishlist #vancleef #jewelry #jewelryshopping #shopping #finejewelry #luxe #wishlistinspo

♬ sonido original – 𝐁𝐄𝐋𝐋𝐀𝐐𝐔𝐈𝐓𝐎☂

The trend: With this trend originally taking off last month, it’s showing no signs of slowing down. In this content, users begin their videos with the text “I wonder where the wind will take me today” before leaning and appearing to stumble into a new location. Creators have been using this to show their favorite food and drink establishments, stores, and travel destinations. This video can either feature multiple people or just one person.

How you can use it: If your small business has a physical product or location, this is an ideal trend to get involved in. Start off by featuring yourself, or someone who could be your customer, in the video with the text “I wonder where the wind will take me today” overlaid with the popular audio. Cut the clip as you’re beginning to lean, and begin your next clip as you’re leaning further. Your second clip should be filmed in one of your favorite locations (your business) or with your favorite items (your products).

Oh I wasn’t sad… I just needed a little bit of this

@karolinevollstad

girly things 💌 #iwasntsad #girlythings #girlygirl #girlyaesthetic #girltherapy #pinterestaesthetic #selfcare #shopping

♬ Oh I wasnt sad I just needed – amber | uk + travel

The trend: Similarly to the dopamine menu trend mentioned a few weeks ago, this trend focuses on things that make the creator happy. Using the popular sound by TikTok creator @eats.travels, this trend can be created as a video or as an image carousel post. Content following this trend usually starts off with an image or clip of the content creator while the audio says “Oh I wasn’t sad”. When the audio continues, saying “I just needed a little bit of this, a little bit of that” the images or video clips change to show things and places that make the creator happy.

How you can use it: This is a particularly useful trend for small businesses because it is easy to show the value or entertainment your offering provides. Start the trend by showing yourself or a customer, before lining up clips or photos of your products or business in general. If you own an AirBnB property, show some of the things in the space that make it unique. If you own a fashion or jewelry brand, display the experience of buying your items and show off the pieces themselves. This trend is easily adaptable, so make sure to use it in the best way for your business.

Wait! They don’t love you like I love you

@grandadfrankk

My one true love☕️ #fyp #grandad #theydontloveyoulikeiloveyou #teaandbiscuits

♬ –

The trend: You may already know the song ‘Maps’ by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but once you’re familiar with this trend you may never hear it the same way again. TikTok users have adopted a sped up version of the song to form the basis of a new (and very simple) dance. At the start of the word “wait”, the creator holds their hand out in a lunging pose. When the song continues with “they don’t love you” the dancer stands and wiggles.

How you can use it: This is a quick and easy trend to recreate. Simply overlay text that is relevant to your niche. For a skincare business this could be “Me when my customers start talking about organic skincare” or for a shoe brand this could be “Me when I see anyone wearing our knee high stiletto boots in the wild.” You could even make a series of these videos for different products and occasions!

Scram!

@reallygoodimpressions

PSA to any guy that tries to talk to my girl #boyfriend #girlfriend #relationship

♬ where is my mind (piano version) – your movie soundtrack

The trend: A video created by TikTok user, @reallygoodimpressions (otherwise known as Kel) has become the most recent trend sweeping the platform. In the original content, Kel jokingly threatens the viewer by telling them to “scram” and telling them that “she doesn’t want to talk to you”. Although the original video refers to the creator’s partner, other users have been repurposing the clip by overlaying it on a different background and adding text to suit other purposes. Brands have been quick to jump on this, so now is the perfect time to relate this to your business.

How you can use it: Find an image of your products or a plain background, before overlaying the clip. For an organic beauty brand with luxury ingredients, your text may read “Me to people who suggest using lower quality ingredients to increase my profits”, or if you’re a cake shop, text such as “When people tell us they think that red velvet is an overrated flavor” may work best with your offering.

Disappointment Sound

@lauurenanderson

♬ sad SpongeBob music – michael

The trend: The popular sound originates from the show SpongeBob SquarePants, and is synonymous with scenes where the famous sponge has failed at a task or is generally upset. The audio clip is now making its rounds on both TikTok and Instagram and has been used in an extensive variety of ways, from creators posting personal stories to large brands, such as airlines, creating original content with the sound.

How you can use it: Think of problems that your product or service addresses and play on this. For example, if you’re a jewelry brand, make a joke about a ring not from your brand turning a finger green, or if you offer freelance social media services, focus on how potential clients may put in hours of work for little or no engagement across their channels.

Rory Gilmore Fall

@richelle_zh

cute and easy fall outfit🍂😌 @Ardene #autumn #college #school #fashion #ardenead #ardenelove

♬ Rory Gilmore Fall – dietcherrycola

The trend: This trend is all about embracing a fall, just like a Gilmore girl. The audio that sparked the trend is a mash up of a sound clip from the popular show, along with the song Head Over Heels by 80’s British pop duo, Tears for Fears. Creators start by lip-syncing the character Rory’s monologue to the camera about looking “pretty and girly”, before stepping back to reveal an autumnal outfit. Other users have simply been using the trending sound to show off some of their favorite fall items and products.

How you can use it: If you are a small fashion or accessories brand, this is your time to shine. There are a number of ways you can use this trend. The first of these includes choosing your brand’s favorite pieces and creating a fall outfit, inspired by Gilmore Girls’ fashion. Think long fitted coats, knee high boots, and cozy turtlenecks. Another way to use this trend is to set static images of your products to this trending audio to create a carousel for your Instagram feed or TikTok.

VMA memes

The trend: The MTV VMAs took place earlier this week and the memes have been flowing in full force. The star-studded line up, included performances from Sabrina Carpenter, Tyla, Eminem, Chappell Roan, and Camila Cabello, as well as appearances from Tyla, Taylor Swift, Post Malone and many, many more familiar faces. It’s almost guaranteed that each year that the VMAs will produce new viral moments, and this year was no exception.

How you can use it: Take your pick from one of the many clips or images from the event, and match it to a situation relevant to your business. For example, if you’re a social media manager, you could use a clip of Camila Cabello smashing a laptop and include text saying ‘When your scheduled post didn’t publish’ or ‘Me when I see I’ve spelled my client’s name wrong in a campaign deck’. You may alternatively choose to use an image of Eminem and his lookalikes and caption it ‘What it feels like to be a one person marketing team.’ The opportunities are endless – find the content that’s best for you and tailor it to your business.

https://www.tiktok.com/@varietymagazine/video/7413576428999937323?q=vmas%202024%20camila%20smashing%20laptop&t=1726238562790

I don’t want to feel that type of pain again

The trend: This new trend has been gaining momentum over the last day or two, with creators using the sound in their own ways. The song in question includes the lyrics ‘I don’t want to feel that type of pain again.’ By overlaying the sound on top of video content, some users have been including a reference to a memory or event, which is then followed by the trend’s key lyrics.

How you can use it: Give your content a comedic edge by using this song to say that you don’t want to go back to the pain you felt without the product or service your small business offers, or perhaps reference a time when it wasn’t available. For example, your text could read ‘Do you remember when you missed Creative Coffee’s new flavor drop and it sold out in 10 minutes?’ This is a super versatile trend, so find a way to make it relevant to your audience and get posting!

Two steps ahead

The trend: A trending audio of a quote from a video by popular creator, Nikocado Avocado, has seen a resurgence this week after having made the rounds on social media for quite some time. The audio features the words “Two steps ahead, I am always two steps ahead.” Users are jumping on this trend to mention a time when they were ahead of the curve, or surpassed a personal best.

How you can use it: Show how your business is a leader, whether this is from starting trends as a freelance marketer, or coming up with new formulas for your hair care line. Your content could either feature the team behind the magic with text indicating how the business has stayed ahead of the game, or show clips of your products, with text overlaid including quotes and positive reviews from customers about how their hair has never felt better, or from clients mentioning how you were able to develop an engaged following for them.

Symphony (with dolphins):

@luv4yamii

#dolphin #meme #relatable #dolphinposts #symphony

♬ Originalton – zɪᴀᡣ𐭩ྀིྀིྀི

Trend description: The song Symphony by Clean Bandit has found itself at the heart of multiple viral videos this week. The trend includes the song’s original chorus laid over picturesque graphics of dolphins and rainbows. The twist is that there is a morbid or unpleasant caption in bold white text over the top. The contrast between the unsettling captions against the uplifting audio and backgrounds makes this content funny to watch and leaves a viewer wanting to see more, or understand the context.

How you can use it: Think of a cringe moment or a time when things went seriously wrong for your business. You may think of these times as your biggest failures, but honesty and transparency are two qualities that have made this such a popular trend. Share these stories with your audience, using the original audio and a similar style background. This is a great way to connect with your audience.

Trend description: This trend has seen huge popularity on TikTok over the past week. The dopamine menu trend involves social media users showing the audience all the things they do to bring them joy when needed. It is something to refer back to when feeling down, or when you just simply need a break.

How you can use it: Show others how your product or service can fit into their dopamine menu. Think about what you love about your offering what others might too. Consider how this will this help to bring them joy. What do you want your audience to know about your brand? This is a great trend to show how your online yoga classes, or the fresh pastries you make daily, can take a spot on someone’s dopamine menu.

♬ apple x supercut – jevan

Trend description: This is a trend which is both aspirational and relatable, as well as easy to join in on. This and yap entails the creator showing an environment, often with food or drinks, that they enjoy being in to catch up with friends, have a chat with colleagues or spend time with family. Used in both video and photo content, the image or video simply has ‘this and yap’ written over the top. Simple, but effective.

How you can use it: This is a fantastic opportunity for cafe owners, drink brand founders and restaurateurs to show off their locations and offering. Film a short clip (only a few seconds long) of your establishment or product, and use text over the top reading ‘this and yap’. Add the APPLE X SUPERCUT audio by @jevanmusic on TikTok, and you’re done!
