Grok Imagine 1.5 Lite is the faster, lower-cost version of xAI’s Grok Imagine 1.5 video model. It turns a text prompt or one starting image into a clip of 3 to 15 seconds. Every clip comes with an audio track already in it.
Lite gives up some detail in exchange for speed. Full Grok Imagine 1.5 keeps the higher-fidelity output. Lite is made for short social clips, quick concepts and many takes of one idea. Both share identical settings in Picsart AI Playground.
What Grok Imagine 1.5 Lite is
Grok Imagine is xAI’s family of generative models, and Picsart AI Playground carries several of its video versions. Grok Imagine 1.0, Grok Imagine 1.5 and 1.5 Lite all generate new clips. Each one sits in the model picker as its own entry.
Lite has a narrow, useful job. xAI recommends it for simple videos, and it is the family’s lowest-cost option per second of footage. It is built as the speed-first tier for short-form work and fast iteration.
Editing or extending an existing clip is a different job. The separate Grok Edit Video and Grok Extend Video entries handle it.
Grok Imagine 1.5 Lite vs Grok Imagine 1.5
The two tiers share a name, a version number and a settings panel. Lite chases speed and cost, while full 1.5 chases detail.
| Feature | Grok Imagine 1.5 Lite | Grok Imagine 1.5 |
|---|---|---|
| Built for | Speed, simple videos, many variations | Higher-fidelity, more detailed output |
| Path to 1080p | Upscales from 720p | Renders 1080p natively |
| Cost per second | Lowest in the family | Higher than Lite |
| Ways to start | Text prompt or one image | Text prompt or one image |
| Aspect ratios in Picsart | 7 | 7 |
| Clip length in Picsart | 3 to 15 seconds, 8 by default | 3 to 15 seconds, 8 by default |
| Sound | Audio track by default, lip-synced speech | Audio track by default, lip-synced speech |
The resolution row is the one that matters most. Both models can reach 1080p for text and image starts. Lite gets there by upscaling a 720p render, while Grok Imagine 1.5 renders at 1080p from the start.
xAI also builds its more advanced reference controls on full 1.5 rather than on Lite. Inside Picsart, though, both entries take the same single image. The practical choice is about polish versus pace, not about which buttons you get.
Two ways to start a clip
Every Lite clip begins in one of two places. Each suits a different kind of idea.
From a text prompt. Describe the scene, the action and the sound, and the model builds everything from words. This is the open-ended route, good for ideas that still live just in your head.
From a starting image. Add a picture to the image slot, labeled Reference. The model uses it as the first frame, and the clip moves forward from there. A product shot, a sketch or a moodboard frame can open a video.
The image also decides the frame shape. The output matches the picture’s aspect ratio, and the ratio setting stops applying. Crop the image to the shape you need before you add it.
Grok Imagine 1.5 Lite settings explained
Two settings shape every clip: aspect ratio and duration. Lite offers seven ratios in Picsart, and they group neatly by where the clip will end up.
| Destination | Ratios |
|---|---|
| Vertical feeds and stories | 9:16 |
| Landscape screens and video players | 16:9 |
| Square feed posts | 1:1 |
| Slides and portrait posts | 4:3, 3:4 |
| Photo-style frames | 3:2, 2:3 |
Duration comes in set lengths of 3, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 15 seconds, with 8 as the default. Three seconds is enough for a loop or a reaction beat. Eight gives one clear action room to land. The longer settings suit a small arc, such as an arrival, a moment and a turn away.
Length affects waiting time too. Generation takes longer as the prompt gets more complex, the clip gets longer and the resolution climbs.
Sound and spoken dialogue
Lite clips are not silent footage waiting for a soundtrack. Each generated video includes an audio track by default. Speech comes out lip-synced, so a character’s mouth moves with the words.
That makes the prompt a script as well as a shot description. Name the background sound you want, like rain on a window or a crowded cafe. For dialogue, a clear way to write it is to name the speaker, then put the exact line in quotes.
What Grok Imagine 1.5 Lite is good for
Three jobs suit Lite especially well.
Short social clips
A vertical feed rewards volume and timing more than cinematic finish. Lite’s short durations and 9:16 frame cover the format directly. A three-second loop or an eight-second gag makes a natural Grok Imagine video for the feed.
Concept previews
A written idea is hard to pitch, and a moving one is easy. Lite turns a concept into a quick clip, ready for a client, a teammate or a moodboard. The detailed version can come later on full 1.5.
Many takes of one idea
The first take is rarely the keeper. Lite’s lower cost per second makes it practical to run the same prompt several times, change one detail, and compare. Pick the direction that works, then refine it.
Grok Imagine 1.5 Lite prompts to try
A strong video prompt covers four things. Name the subject, the action, the camera and the sound. Swap the subjects below for your own.
Vertical shot of a night market noodle stall, a cook tossing noodles high from a steaming wok, orange flames flaring underneath, string lights swaying above the crowd, the camera holding steady at counter height, sizzling oil, clanking metal and chatter from the queue Bring this photo to life: wind picks up across the balcony, the hanging plants sway, a wind chime starts to turn and catch the late afternoon sun, a curtain billows through the open door behind, slow push-in toward the chime, soft metallic notes over distant street noise A bike mechanic in a cluttered workshop spins a back wheel and listens, then looks up at the customer across the counter and says with a grin, “Your chain has been asking for oil since spring.” The customer laughs.
