These five photo editing tutorials show how to edit photos with AI in Picsart, every way it can be done: on the Flow canvas, by describing it in AI Playground, with an AI agent, with the Background Remover, and with the AI Image Enhancer and Upscaler.

Each one connects more than one tool, so you finish with a complete edit rather than a single effect. Start with the one that matches the photo in front of you.

1. Edit a photo on the Flow canvas

Picsart Flow puts generative editing right on the canvas, and connects each edit to the next. Every result lands on a new node, so the original stays right next to it: compare the two, branch off in a new direction, or A/B both versions downstream.

Fix one area with Inpaint

Inpaint is the single most-used gesture in professional AI editing: change just the part you care about, without regenerating the picture and losing everything that was already right.

  1. Open the Actions menu on any image node and choose Inpaint.
  2. Paint the region with the brush. The eraser removes strokes, everything merges into one mask, and undo steps back stroke by stroke.
  3. Describe the change in the prompt bar below the node.
  4. Run it. The run starts once you have both a mask and a prompt, and only the masked region changes; the rest stays pixel-identical.

Extend the frame with Outpaint

Outpaint expands an image beyond its original borders, so reframing for a new placement no longer means recreating the asset. Turn a square into a 16:9 hero banner or extend a scene for a story format, and the new space is filled generatively so it looks shot that way, not stretched.

  • Drag any of the 8 handles to open up new space; the original never moves or resizes.
  • Slide the frame to choose where the new space sits, not just how big it is.
  • Use the aspect chips to lock an exact ratio, or Auto for free-form.
  • Add a prompt to steer what fills the gap, or leave it empty for a seamless extension.

Re-shoot the angle with Camera Angle

One photo, every angle. Drop a single shot into the Camera Angle node and re-render it from the viewpoint you need, with proportions and lighting kept consistent across views.

  • Horizontal angle: 8 positions all the way around the subject, in 45-degree steps.
  • Vertical angle: low-angle, eye-level, elevated or high-angle.
  • Distance: wide, medium or close-up.

It is built for listing galleries, ads and storyboards that need front, side and three-quarter views of the same subject.

Turn the photo into a camera move

The same photo can become a 5 to 15 second clip with Camera Motion. The camera travels and the scene stays exactly as shot, so it reads like a real dolly or crane move rather than a re-imagined video.

  • 18 presets on two shelves, from Push in, Arc and Full orbit to Whip orbit, Fly-by and Hero shot.
  • Mirror any turning move with one click, or draw your own path with 2 to 12 keyframes.
  • Press play in the panel to preview the move before you spend credits.

Chain it into one workflow

This is where Flow stops being a single tool. Every edit is a node, and nodes connect, so the edits above run as one chain from a raw photo to finished files.

  1. Add your photo as an image node.
  2. Right-click the canvas to search for the next model, action or node type, and press Enter. The new node appears where you clicked and connects automatically when it can.
  3. Wire the edits together: Inpaint the flaw, Outpaint for the new format, Camera Angle for extra views, then background removal, lighting, colour grading and resizing as the job needs.
  4. Shift+Click Generate on the last node to rerun the whole chain, with the total credit cost shown before it runs.
  5. Publish the frame as a simple app if others need the same edit: they fill in a form and run your pipeline without seeing the canvas.

2. Edit a photo by describing it in AI Playground

The newest kind of photo editing skips the tools entirely: upload a photo to Picsart AI Playground, pick an image editing model, and describe the change in words.

The trick is to use two models in sequence. GPT Image 2.5 does the main edit: it changes only the element you name and holds everything else steady, and an earlier edit survives the next one. Then Ideogram 4.5 Precise Edit handles the finishing pass: it changes only the area you specify, keeps the rest pixel-intact, and is built for fixing text and fine details.

  1. Open AI Playground and choose Image in the bottom-left switcher.
  2. Add your photo with the Image button at the top of the prompt box.
  3. Pick GPT Image 2.5 from the model menu.
  4. Describe the main change, then what must not move. The second half matters as much as the first.
  5. Generate and check at full size.
  6. Switch to Ideogram 4.5 Precise Edit for the finishing pass: a sign that came out garbled, a logo, a small detail.
  7. Describe that one fix and generate again.

3. Hand the edit to an AI art director

Mila is Picsart's AI art director and photo retoucher agent. She fixes, transforms and finishes still images, and she says which version actually works: describe the result, and Mila finds the least destructive way there.

What Mila handles:

  • Precise edits: removing people or objects, repairing, restoring, enhancing, retouching, recolouring and grading.
  • Backgrounds: cutouts, generated or supplied scenes, outpainting, and matched light and shadows.
  • Products and try-ons: faithful packshots, lifestyle scenes and virtual try-on that never invents the product.
  • Restoration: old photos repaired and colour revived without inventing new faces.
  • Batches: one visual system across a folder, with frame-specific corrections where needed.

What makes an agent different is that one brief covers what would otherwise take several tools. A single request to Mila can remove a distraction, repair the photo, retouch it, regrade the colour, resize it for each placement and export the layered file to Drive.

  1. Bring the image.
  2. Describe the whole result you want, for example "remove the bin behind her, finish the portrait like an editorial with natural retouching, warm the grade, and give me a square and a 9:16 version".
  3. Name anything that must stay exactly as it is.
  4. Review her versions. Mila shows credit costs up front and inspects the real output before delivery.

Mila will push back on waxy skin, fake luxury and filters that bury the subject, and offer a stronger move instead. The final call is always yours.

4. Remove a background, then build a new scene

The Background Remover detects the subject and removes the background in seconds, and it has been used in more than 700 million edits.

  1. Upload a photo with the Browse files button.
  2. Remove the image background. The AI finds the subject and takes the rest away.
  3. Download or customize. Keep the transparent cutout or drop in a new background.

Turn it into clipart: a transparent cutout is clipart. Remove the background from a coffee cup, a pet or a sneaker, and you have a sticker for any design.

Then give it a new world: when a plain background is not enough, Theo, Picsart's AI background artist agent, builds the scene. He puts a packshot anywhere, matches the light, tests three campaign worlds and repeats one look across a whole catalog.

5. Fix a blurry, low-res photo

Two AI tools rescue a photo that came out soft, grainy or too small, and they work best together: enhance it first, then upscale it if it needs to be bigger.

Enhance it with the AI Image Enhancer

The AI Image Enhancer makes photos clearer and sharper in a click, and it is free to use.

  • Fix blurry photos: unblur the image and recover lost detail.
  • Reduce noise: clean up grain from low light or high ISO.
  • Correct colour and light: brightness, colour and uneven tones fixed automatically.
  • Restore old photos: bring faded memories back to life.
    1. Upload your photo into the widget on the page.
    2. Let AI do the work.
    3. Download your result.
    4. Make more edits in the editor if the photo needs anything else.

Make it bigger with the AI Upscaler

The AI Upscaler increases the resolution of an image with one click, restoring crisp edges and refining textures while keeping colours true.

  1. Upload a photo with the Browse files button.
  2. Restore the image. The AI enlarges it and recovers detail.
  3. Download or customize.

Upscale before you resize when a small image has to become a large print, because resizing alone cannot add detail that was never captured. Both tools also handle batches, so a whole folder of old or low-res photos can be fixed in one go.

Frequently asked questions

It depends on the edit. Describe it in AI Playground when you can put it into words, use Inpaint in Picsart Flow to fix one exact area, and hand it to Mila when you want retouching with a second opinion.
