This post was written by our partner, Elbi. The Elbi app empowers you to make a difference in minutes to people all over the world by uniting you with charitable projects that need your digital creativity.
There are five billion ‘likes’ a day. Five billion double taps, thumbs ups and hearts every day.
And what do they mean? Not much, really.
That’s where Elbi comes in — where little actions make a big difference, and a difference you can see. And for International Children’s Day, we’re teaming up with the good people at PicsArt to make an even bigger difference.
PicsArt is a mobile creativity app that enables users to transform photos into beautiful, original pieces of art. And starting June 1st, we’re inviting the world to download PicsArt and to join the community in creating “underwater world”-themed images to help children in need.
Elbi is a social enterprise platform. We don’t ask you to send 10 dollars every month to huge charities and hope for the best. Instead, we introduce you to small charities around the world that are changing people’s lives, people whose lives you can impact with just your phone.
In fact, you don’t need to give any money at all if you don’t want to. You can make a real difference to real people just by being creative.
Real people like the kids at Whisper.
Whisper is a small charity based in a village called Jinga in Uganda. They started out as a children’s home, providing an education and health care for seriously ill kids. They had such an impact on the community that they decided to build the first hospital in the village to care for the seriously malnourished children suffering in the area.
And when those children have no one to go home to, Whisper takes them in and gives them all the support they need medically, educationally and emotionally.
Elbi has been working with Whisper for a little while now and the children get super excited when they receive pictures from far away places. So we thought we’d make it into a competition.
All you’ve got to do is send the kids a picture of something beautiful from the ocean, like wildlife, coral or even a shipwreck filled with treasure. Uganda is a long way from the coast and the children have never seen the sea before, so together, let’s bring it to them.
The top 10 photos will be featured in the Elbi app and the top 100 photos from the contest will be made into a huge sea mural for Whisper’s walls.
Easiest difference you’ve made? We thought so.
The best bit? You can download Elbi from the App Store and upload your creation there too, and if someone ‘likes’ your creation on our app, that’s them making a dollar micro-donation to Whisper. And you can safely consider yourself a fundraiser. We’re currently available on iOS and will be available to android users very soon!
Finally, a ‘like’ that matters.
So PicsArt community, do what you always do, but make your amazing art make a difference today.
