PicsArt Basics: #FreeToEdit

PicsArt’s #FreeToEdit feature is a fun way to collaborate with other artists. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to find a #FreeToEdit image, edit it and find it in the remix gallery.

When an image has the #FreeToEdit hashtag, it just means that it’s… free to edit (clever, huh?). When you add the hashtag to your own image, you give permission to anybody and everybody in the PicsArt community to download and use it to create their own edits, or remixes. Remix is just a fancy word for an image that was created using a #FreeToEdit image. It’s our way of linking original #FreeToEdit images to all of the edits that they inspire. So when people create images based on your original #FreeToEdit image, everyone will know that it’s your shot that inspired it!

Step 1

#FreeToEdit is a fun way to collaborate with other artists. To join in the fun, open the Explore page and scroll down until you find the #FreeToEdit section.

Step 2

From here, you have the option to view a curated collection of #FreeToEdit images. To see more, tap on “See All.” If you’re looking for a specific sort of image, tap on the Search icon.

Step 3

With the “Images” tab selected, type what you are looking for into the search box at the top of the screen. We’d like to edit a portrait, so we entered “freetoedit portrait” into the search box. Tap on the image you’d like to use to view it in fullscreen mode.

Step 4

Tap on the pencil icon to open the image in the photo editor.

Step 5

Now you can remix the image in any way you like! For example, if you’d like to add some Clipart, tap on the Clipart icon.

Step 6

Select the Inspirational Quotes package.

Step 7

Select the Clipart image you’d like to use.

Step 8

Use the arrow icon in the bottom right corner to adjust the size of the Clipart image, and drag it to place it. Tap on the check mark to confirm.

Step 9

You can also add Effects, Masks or create whatever you like! A #FreeToEdit image is a canvas just waiting for your creations. When you’re done editing, tap on the Save icon to save your image. Tap on the Share icon and share it on PicsArt.

Step 10

Now your image will appear as a remix of the original #FreeToEdit image. To view it, open the original image and tap on the remix icon (the number that appears next to the icon will tell you how many remixes have been created).

Step 11

Your image will appear in the remix gallery. Tap on it to view it in fullscreen mode.

Step 12

There it is! Note that your username appears at the top of the screen, so everyone knows that the remix was created by you.
